Having actually PLAYED the game, I can tell you its pretty fun. There are several classes to choose from (tanker, blaster, defender, controller and scrapper). There IS quite a bit of grind involved, but otherwise its a solid game. Thier character creation system is literally off the wall. You want unique, you've basically got it.
The main site is HERE. Read through the game features, they actually do a decent job of summing up thier game. I enjoyed it while I played it but after a little while playing the same class got boring, but then, all games are that way for me.
Btw, city of villans will be stand alone. It'll connect to the existing city of heros world but you wont need city of heroes to play it. If you have both though, you still only pay one monthly fee.

I thought it was a waste of money, nothing really interesting or special. I'd rather play Quake II honestly.

Played it shortly after release-
It's a major grindfest like many other MMORPG's.
The skill systems are largely uninspired and plain.
The graphics are very nice, and the characters are highly customizable in appearance.
I haven't played with any of the epic stuff, since it didn't exist when I had it.
Moving in all 3 dimensions is something very different from any other MMORPG I've played though, and it's honestly very refreshingly different.
The missions and quests were very dull and repetitive last I'd played.
In short, if you like the same $15 a month grind most other MMORPG's offer, go for it. It's got at least some interesting things that make it unique, besides appealing to comic book fans.
And, if you're wondering, I've played every controller there is, 2 blasters, and a defender.

I'm still playing my first month and it's okay, but my PCs sure aren't going anywhere. I've got a scrapper, two tankers, a defender, and a blaster and they are all under level 10. PC creation is sort of fun, but the graphics aren't too great by today's standards. I was able to make a pretty good Excel, and I like my samurai, but my Knight Saber-esque PC could have been better.
I think the game would have been better if it had guildwars to build from. In fact I'd like to see Anet do a superhero game based on the gameplay of GW (it could be a true mmo though).

I played beta and i had a free account on this game for a month. Did not enjoy any of it. The controls have to be all reset. The only cool thing is player creation an choices u have to make him your char. The power lines are all pretty much the same. So you only have the base def. scar. tank. and the other few. Def think WoW is better than COH, if u want to pay. I like the set up in guild wars, the fact i am a broke college students also helps.

I played the game for awhile with a few friends. I found I enjoyed teh graphics and everything else I could do with my character (like make him shiny black, lol). I quit the game when I found out howhard it is to quest with anyone in an instanced setting.

It's not that bad if you find yourself a good supergroup
